Pantomime Workshop with Joylyn Secunda (Canada)

Discover the power of storytelling without words.
Internationally acclaimed Canadian mime and physical theater performer Joylyn Secunda, visiting the Czech Republic for the first time as part of the Mime Fest, will lead a practical workshop focused on the fundamentals and creative possibilities of contemporary pantomime.
Participants will explore how to create characters, environments, situations, and stories through movement techniques, group exercises, and improvisation, where invisible objects gain shape, weight, and meaning, and movement becomes dramatic action and humor. They will investigate the principles of contemporary pantomime, work with imaginary objects and space, comedic timing, character comedy, exaggeration, and visual storytelling, and acquire practical tools for creating their own short sketches.
The workshop is intended for students, actors, dancers, and performers of non-verbal theater. Previous experience with pantomime is not necessary.
About the Instructor
Joylyn Secunda is a Canadian performer, actress, dancer, and puppeteer based in Vancouver. She has performed at prestigious festivals in Canada and Australia and has collaborated with notable companies such as the National Arts Centre, The Wonderheads, Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, and Monster Theatre. In her work, she combines pantomime, physical theater, clowning, dance, mask theater, and puppetry. She has studied under Dean Evans (Cirque du Soleil), at the corporeal mime school Théâtre Omnibus in Montreal, and has completed specialized training in clowning, original theater, and movement acting. In addition to her artistic activities, she regularly leads pantomime and physical theater workshops for students, educators, and professional artists.
Price: 7,000 CZK – includes two workshops, admission to all performances, accommodation for 4 nights, and all-day meals throughout the festival.

All workshops will be conducted in English, with the possibility of translation into Czech.
